Curriculum

Calvary Lutheran Preschool strives to prepare our students for Kindergarten socially and academically.

We follow a consistent daily schedule.  This includes circle time, learning and play centers, art, music, snack, and recess.

Our curriculum builds upon a foundation for beginning learning.  This includes letters and numbers, and colors and shapes, and lots of literacy! We also encourage healthy habits and manners. We have chapel on a weekly basis and learn Bible stories, Christian songs, and gather an offering to help the sick children at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Our music time is a daily preschool-wide event.  Songs are secular and religious in nature; we also use instruments and a lot of movement!

We take various field trips, visiting places such as Mike’s Farm, Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium, and Lynnwood Zoo, just to name a few.  We also have visits from the Onslow County Children’s Museum and our local DARE officer.  We take walking trips to Meadow Oaks, an Assisted Care Facility next door to the school and sing songs and take the residents crafts the students have made.  Since field trips are done in private cars, parents are welcome to accompany their child on all scheduled field trips.

We also offer Little Heroes for students with a deployed military parent.  A Military Counselor Liaison for Onslow County Schools visits the preschool monthly to do activities and hold discussions. Our Preschool Director also leads Little Heroes at other times during the month, helping them make crafts to send to their parent and express themselves in a healthy fashion. Our goal is for these students to be proud of their deployed parent, have a safe place to share thoughts, worries, or concerns and know they are not alone.  But most of all, we want these students to be proud of themselves and know they are heroes themselves and we honor them for their sacrifice.
